A Capstone Green Energy Case Study
CONAD (Consorzio Nazionale Dettaglianti), a major Italian food retail cooperative, needed a low-emission, reliable power solution for its logistics center in Fiano Romano to support a temperature-controlled cold chain while reducing energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. It turned to Capstone Green Energy and its Italian distributor, IBT Group, for a combined cooling, heating and power (CCHP) trigeneration system built around a Capstone C800 microturbine.
Capstone Green Energy implemented an 800kWe microturbine-based trigeneration system with heat recovery and a 365kW ammonia absorption chiller to supply electricity, hot water, heating, and cooling for the facility. The system achieved peak efficiency above 85% over more than 8,000 operating hours, saving CONAD about €47 per hour, cutting primary energy use by 4,000 MWh and 350 TOE annually, and avoiding roughly 800 tons of CO2 emissions each year.
