A Capstone Green Energy Case Study
CEM Ambiente SpA, a solid-waste management company in Cavenago di Brianza, Italy, needed a replacement for an aging reciprocating engine that could no longer run reliably when landfill biogas methane levels dropped to 30%. The company wanted a cleaner, more dependable way to use methane from its closed landfill to power its headquarters and nearby facilities.
Capstone Green Energy solved the challenge by installing five C65 microturbines with five heat recovery modules and two Adicomp gas compressors in a CHP system. The new setup produces electricity, heating, and summer cooling with overall efficiency above 80%, reduces CO2 emissions by about 3,900 metric tons per year, and operates with very low emissions and minimal maintenance.
