Catholic Hospital Koblenz - Customer Case Study

Catholic Hospital Koblenz, a 210-bed healthcare facility in Koblenz, Germany, faced rising electricity and heating costs and needed to replace its aging boiler system while also supplying energy to three additional clinics. To address these requirements, the hospital looked for a reliable, efficient onsite energy solution that could support both power and thermal needs.

Capstone Green Energy supplied two Capstone C65 MicroTurbines in a combined heat and power (CHP) system, paired with custom heat exchangers from distributor E-quad Power Systems. The solution provides electricity, heat, and hot water for the hospital campus and nearby clinics, achieves about 85% overall efficiency, and can shut off the heating system entirely in warmer months. The system also delivers strong operational benefits, with only annual maintenance and minimal downtime.
