CAP Group, the main water service management company in Milan, Italy, needed a more efficient way to manage biogas produced at its sewage treatment plant in Sesto San Giovanni while meeting the demand for reliable electricity and heat for its purification process. Vendor Capstone Green Energy supported the project with biogas-fueled microturbine technology for integrated power and heat generation.

Capstone Green Energy, working through distributor IBT Europe GmbH, installed two Grid Connect C65 High Pressure Digester Gas systems in May 2018 to convert variable biogas output into electricity and hot water. The solution matched seasonal biogas production, avoided the need for a catalyst to meet strict local emissions limits, and helped CAP Group reduce utility costs by 50% in the first year while improving efficiency and cutting emissions.
