British Petroleum - Customer Case Study

British Petroleum (BP) faced a challenge at its Jonah Field in Wyoming, where it needed a better way to power well-site equipment without wasting natural gas on gas-driven pneumatic pumps. BP partnered with Capstone Green Energy to explore a cleaner, more efficient onsite power solution using microturbine technology.

Capstone Green Energy installed four C30 microturbines that run on dry and wet natural gas to generate electricity for TEG dehydration and glycol heat tracing pumps. The solution reduced greenhouse-gas emissions, saved nearly 12 million standard cubic feet of natural gas each year, and delivered reliable operation with minimal maintenance, leading BP to consider expanding the technology to additional sites.
