B.G. Chitale, the India-based dairy and food conglomerate, wanted a more efficient and environmentally friendly way to handle biogas at its Chitale Dairy plant in Maharashtra. Working with Capstone Green Energy distributor Brio Energy, the company looked to replace an older reciprocating engine and improve reliability, reduce energy costs, and meet government regulations using a biogas-powered microturbine system.

Brio Energy implemented a 2 MLD biogas digester system built around three Capstone C65 Microturbines, which converted sour biogas from the plant’s effluent treatment process into usable power without requiring scrubbing. Since commissioning, the system has run more than 36,500 continuous hours, improved energy efficiency by 12 percent, and cut utility costs by 40 percent, saving about $94,500 per year.
