A Capstone Green Energy Case Study
Benz Research & Development, a Florida-based manufacturer of optical polymers for contact lens and intraocular lens materials, needed a reliable way to support growing power demand, improve sustainability, and maintain operations during hurricane-related outages. To address these goals, the company worked with Capstone Green Energy on an upgraded combined cooling, heat and power (CCHP) system.
Capstone Green Energy replaced the older microturbine array with a C200S microturbine integrated with two 30-ton absorption chillers and a building management system, supported by a 7-year Factory Protection Plan from E-Finity Distributed Generation. The system delivers more than 75% thermal efficiency, provides an additional 60 RT of cooling that offsets 70 kW of electric load, helps Benz save about $60,000 annually, and maintains average uptime of over 99% while supporting the company’s goal of becoming virtually carbon-free.
