A Capstone Green Energy Case Study
Aquana Sauna & Recreation Pool, a family-friendly public water park and wellness spa in Würselen, Germany, needed a more reliable and efficient way to meet its round-the-clock electrical and thermal demand for pools, rides, hot tubs, and other amenities. Its older reciprocating engine CHP setup could not fully meet the facility’s technical and economic needs, creating a challenge for continuous heat supply and cost-effective energy production.
Capstone Green Energy implemented a Capstone C200 MicroTurbine with an air-to-water two-stage heat exchanger to support the site’s combined heat and power system. The solution improved total efficiency from about 82% to 88–89%, delivered up to 320 kW of thermal output, reduced maintenance costs, and helped cut carbon emissions by an estimated 2,500 tonnes of CO2 per year, while providing 200 kW of clean, reliable power.
