The Nicholson Project launches 4 AR murals with Capitol Interactive

The Nicholson Project, an arts organization, collaborated with Capitol Interactive to amplify Afrofuturist art through public murals. Their challenge was to bring artist Antoine Williams's Mythic Beings to life in an accessible way that would engage a broad community audience without creating friction.

Capitol Interactive implemented a solution using Instagram-based augmented reality technology, which allowed anyone with the app to activate the murals instantly, eliminating the need for downloads. This approach resulted in four AR-activated Afrofuturist murals installed across Washington, DC, creating an accessible platform for radical Black imagination and enabling immediate audience engagement with the dynamic, evolving artwork.
