NASA visualizes 11K+ light years of stellar evolution with Capitol Interactive

NASA, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, sought to visualize and share complex data on stellar evolution in an engaging and accessible way. Capitol Interactive addressed this challenge by creating an augmented reality (AR) series using data from NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory.

Capitol Interactive built a procedural system in Unreal Engine that ingested NASA's 3D data to generate dynamic, physically based animations. This solution resulted in the first data-driven interstellar AR experience, visualizing over 11,000 light years of stellar evolution. Capitol Interactive also ensured the project's wide impact by making all assets and tools public domain resources for the educational community.

NASA
