World Rugby redefines the fan experience

World Rugby, the global governing body for rugby, wanted to enhance the fan experience for rugby sevens and use data and digital innovation to engage existing supporters while attracting new ones. With Capgemini as its Innovation Partner, the organization set out to modernize how fans, commentators, and media interact with the sport through new data-driven experiences and tools.

Capgemini designed and tested a range of solutions for World Rugby, including a Match Predictor game, a Digital Stats Hub, and a Live Match Tracker, using an agile Discover, Devise, Deploy, and Sustain approach. The work improved commentary and media insights, created a new language for rugby sevens analytics, and added interactive fan features; the Digital Stats Hub and Match Predictor were also rolled into World Rugby’s tournament app, with AI-powered predictions and real-time stats extending the impact of the experience.
