University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust needed to improve the management of Type 1 diabetes for its young patients. The challenge was to give children and doctors better access to critical personal data to regulate blood glucose levels more accurately, thereby improving quality of life and avoiding future expensive complications.

Capgemini Consulting addressed this by using its collaborative Accelerated Solutions Environment (ASE) to bring together all stakeholders and build a secure system for remote monitoring. The solution empowered children to manage their condition and provided practitioners with real-time data for analysis. In a trial, the project was deemed a success, with the potential to save approximately £250,000 per year per individual by preventing the need for renal dialysis and transplantation.
