Sogeti Sweden leverage AI to hunt spruce bark beetles

Sveaskog, the largest forest owner in Sweden, faced a significant challenge with spruce bark beetles destroying millions of cubic meters of its forest each year. To combat this, Sveaskog collaborated with vendor Capgemini (via its subsidiary Sogeti Sweden) and utilized the Geo Satellite Intelligence solution to track and visualize the progression of the beetle infestation.

The solution implemented by Capgemini used AI and satellite imagery to create detailed maps identifying attacked forest areas. This enabled swift management of the affected trees. The results were highly effective, with Sveaskog verifying through drones that the identified areas were 100% accurate. This capability allowed them to quickly contain and reduce the spread of the beetles, protecting their valuable forest assets.
