A Capgemini Case Study
Schuitema, the second largest Dutch food distributor, wanted to improve its supply chain for fresh produce. The retailer faced challenges with quality control, shelf availability, and logistical errors. To achieve these objectives, Schuitema engaged Capgemini to provide RFID expertise and project management for a pilot project.
Capgemini implemented the "Fresh Link" project, which utilized RFID technology and EPCglobal Network architecture to track crates and monitor temperatures throughout the supply chain. This solution provided transparency, enabling features like dynamic expiration analysis and early error detection through alerts. As a result, Schuitema gained direct insight into inventory at the batch level, significantly reduced spillage by rerouting products, and achieved read rates consistently above 99%, leading to fresher produce for consumers.
