DB Schenker, the transport and logistics unit of Deutsche Bahn, faced a significant challenge integrating its numerous custom, self-contained IT applications. The heterogeneous IT landscape, with its unique data formats and message types, made real-time application integration complex and difficult. To address this, they partnered with vendor Capgemini.

Capgemini developed a custom enterprise service bus solution named scintilla*, based on the Oracle Service Bus. This platform enabled seamless synchronous and asynchronous integration between internal and external applications. The solution resulted in reduced integration complexity, increased message flow transparency, and minimized downtime risk. DB Schenker realized significant cost and time savings from the increased reusability of services and the reduced effort needed to integrate new applications.
