Network Rail - Customer Case Study

Network Rail, the owner and operator of Britain's rail infrastructure, needed a more efficient and proactive method for managing its vast network of track assets to meet increasing passenger demand and regulatory pressure to reduce spending. They partnered with Capgemini to implement a Linear Asset Decision Support solution as part of their ORBIS program, aiming to shift from a reactive "find and fix" model to a digitally enabled "predict and prevent" approach.

Capgemini delivered a centralized digital platform that consolidated data from 14 different systems, providing engineers with real-time, visual insights via mobile devices. This solution, developed collaboratively with Network Rail and Bentley Systems, empowered over 800 engineers to make hundreds of improved daily decisions. The results included more preventative maintenance, fewer asset failures, increased safety, and less disruption for passengers, all while achieving significant cost savings and demonstrating clear business value from the digital transformation.
