The Ministry of Defence, a UK government department, faced pressure to control travel costs and replace its inefficient, paper-based booking systems. To address this challenge, the ministry partnered with vendor Capgemini, leveraging the Defence Electronic Commerce Service (DECS) platform to develop a new, intuitive online travel solution.
Capgemini implemented a secure, web-based self-booking tool that provided personnel with a single point of contact for all travel, including comprehensive fare comparisons and policy compliance features. The solution, rolled out to 300,000 users, successfully streamlined processes and provided the Ministry of Defence with the tools to target annual savings of 10% to 20% on travel expenditures.
