A Capgemini Case Study
Longview Fibre, a major manufacturer of paper and packaging products, faced the challenge of needing to replace its aging mainframe systems to remain competitive. They engaged the vendor Capgemini to implement new ERP initiatives with the critical requirement that the project have a minimal impact on their cash flow, aiming for it to be as cash neutral as possible.
Capgemini's solution was a two-pronged approach that first identified millions in potential savings within the supply chain to fund the project. Capgemini then implemented JD Edwards ERP software to modernize operations. The result was that the entire project was funded through realized cost savings, maintaining positive cash flow. Achievements included a 20% reduction in work-in-progress inventory, a 40% reduction in finished goods inventory, and significant reductions in sourcing and transportation costs.
