Case Study: ICTRA ensures a smooth ERP transition with Capgemini’s financial systems maintenance

ICTRA, the ICT division of Belgian Railways (SNCB Group), faced the challenge of migrating its critical financial management systems to a new SAP ERP platform. This required their existing mainframe applications, which handled fixed credits, invoicing, and accounting, to be maintained with absolute reliability throughout the transition. To free up their own team to focus on the new SAP implementation, ICTRA engaged vendor Capgemini to take over the maintenance of the legacy system.

Capgemini provided a two-phased solution, first handling application maintenance and later managing change requests for the 34 million lines of legacy code. This allowed ICTRA to concentrate fully on developing the new SAP system. The result was that the legacy system functioned smoothly and without disruption throughout the entire upgrade process. Following the successful January 2010 launch of the new ERP, Capgemini continued to maintain the legacy components still in use.
