A Capgemini Case Study
HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) needed to securely handle the large volume of sensitive customer data it exchanges in a way that would maintain public confidence. To transform how this information was transferred, HMRC worked with its technology partner Capgemini to develop and introduce the new Secure Electronic Transfer (SET) service.
Capgemini implemented a solution that combined secure data transfer technology with robust governance, reusing components from the existing Government Gateway. The result was that SET was quickly adopted for over 70% of HMRC's large data transfers by over 1000 customers. This new approach dramatically improved security and speed, eliminated the need for physical media and couriers, and within ten months of launch, had already prevented 900 items from being sent.
