A Capgemini Case Study
GCI, Alaska's largest telecommunications provider, faced the significant challenge of migrating its customers from analog to digital telephony service within a demanding nine-month timeframe. This massive undertaking required an overhaul of nearly all its IT systems to gain control of the customer experience and reduce costs from leasing lines from the incumbent carrier. GCI partnered with Capgemini to leverage its technology expertise and collaborative approach to manage this complex project.
Capgemini worked as a true partner with GCI, employing an integrated team structure that combined personnel from both companies to ensure seamless collaboration. The solution involved dramatic changes to 22 of GCI's 30 major business systems, encompassing everything from order management to billing. The project was completed on time and on budget, enabling the successful migration of thousands of customers within the first seven months. Capgemini's efforts helped GCI avoid costly rental fees and positioned them to eventually move all 110,000 customers to the new digital service.
