A Capgemini Case Study
ENSULMECI, a Portugal-based international engineering and construction company, faced a decision regarding its aging IT infrastructure. Its physical servers were reaching end-of-life, and the company needed to choose between a costly hardware refresh or adopting a new virtual infrastructure. Lacking in-house virtualization expertise, they selected vendor Capgemini to implement a solution that would improve management control, service quality, and availability while reducing costs.
Capgemini implemented a new datacenter virtualization platform for ENSULMECI, consolidating all servers onto a high-performance architecture. The solution enabled prioritized service levels for different environments and included failover equipment for resilience. The results were significant: Capgemini's solution reduced hardware by 80% and hardware resources by 60%, while maintaining performance and increasing availability. The project also achieved an 83% reduction in needed rack space and saved 64% on exploration costs, all while migrating nearly all production servers with almost zero downtime.
