Enexis, a regional energy network operator in the Netherlands, required a new mobile platform for its utility meter reading processes as the existing one reached end-of-life. Their challenge was to find a solution that allowed for easy application development and deployment, integrated into their SAP backend, and could form the foundation of a broader mobile strategy. They engaged vendor Capgemini to develop this new platform.
Capgemini implemented an iPad app for meter reading personnel, utilizing their Managed Mobility capability featuring the Afaria and Sybase Unwired Platform for an "as a service" solution. The app provides online-offline functionality with real-time data synchronization and integrated mapping. The results for Enexis included a significantly lower total cost of ownership, increased process efficiency, high employee satisfaction, and a dramatic reduction in required user training from one week to almost none. The entire project was completed by Capgemini in just three months.
