A Capgemini Case Study
EDF, one of the world's largest energy and utility companies, faced a challenge tracking the location of mandatory mobile air supply units during sensitive nuclear reactor maintenance outages. Lost or missing equipment had the potential to halt critical work, costing hundreds of thousands of euros per day in delays. To solve this, they partnered with vendor Capgemini to implement an asset tracking solution using the Capgemini XIoT platform.
The solution deployed by Capgemini used a network of radio tags and Intel IoT Gateways to provide real-time location and status monitoring of the safety equipment on a central dashboard. This replaced inefficient paper-based systems, allowing EDF's maintenance teams to immediately locate every unit across a large area and ensure work could start on time. The innovation increased asset availability and operational efficiency, and is now being evaluated for plant-wide deployment.
