Case Study: Baker Hughes achieves real-time manufacturing visibility and reduced downtime with Capgemini

A Capgemini Case Study

Preview of the Baker Hughes Case Study

Digital technology manufactures a new future at BHGE plants

Baker Hughes, a GE company (BHGE), a global oil and gas technology leader, needed better visibility into its manufacturing operations and the ability to manage production in real time. To address these challenges, it turned to Capgemini and its digital manufacturing expertise, including MES and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) capabilities, to improve productivity, reduce downtime, and gain insight across its shop floor.

Capgemini implemented an IIoT solution that connected machines, devices, MES, and CMMS data into a real-time view of production, while also standardizing processes across BHGE’s Italian plants. The results were significant: 26,000 hours of downtime were avoided in 2017, machine utilization increased by 12% within five months, and the solution delivered millions of euros in savings and capacity equivalent to six additional machines.
