Check In Scotland Service Protects Public Health And Enables Businesses To Re-open Safely

The Scottish Government, in partnership with NHS Scotland, faced the challenge of creating a national digital contact tracing service to help control the spread of COVID-19 and safely re-open the hospitality sector. Their initial methods for collecting contact data were inconsistent and slow, creating significant hurdles for public health teams.

Capgemini partnered with the government to develop the Check In Scotland service, a QR code-based app and website. This solution centralized data collection, ensuring GDPR compliance and providing contact tracers with fast, accurate data. The service was a major success, facilitating over 20 million check-ins at 27,000 venues and delivering £7.7 million in savings for the contact tracing process.
