Capgemini helps HMRC modernise student loans service and make it cloud-ready

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) needed to modernize its legacy Student Loans Business Service (SLBS) platform to support new policy demands and its broader digital transformation goals. The UK tax authority sought a safe, reliable, and cost-effective solution to replace its outdated technology. Capgemini automated the migration of the application's business logic to structured Java, creating an API-enabled service deployed on a private cloud. This solution removed HMRC's dependency on legacy software, allowing them to decommission the old system. The new platform, managed with a DevOps service model and CI/CD, provides a flexible, open-standard foundation ready for future public cloud adoption and continuous enhancements.
