Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), a major Indian oil and gas company, faced challenges with governance and process efficiency in its finance and accounting operations, which led to financial leakage and vendor management issues. To address this, BPCL partnered with vendor Capgemini to automate its Vendor Invoice Management (VIM) process and implement a Shared Services Center to drive digital transformation.
Capgemini implemented an automated vendor invoice management system and helped establish the Shared Services Center for BPCL. The solution delivered significant results, including operational efficiency gains that reduced the team handling invoices from 3,000 employees to just 25-30, and cost savings of $19 million within the first six months of operation. This automation by Capgemini also improved governance, ensured timely tax credits, and put BPCL on a path to managing 90% of its finance functions digitally.
