BlueScope futureproofs its finance function to achieve efficiency beyond costs savings

BlueScope Steel, a leading global steel manufacturer, sought to transform its finance and accounting operations to improve cost-effectiveness and productivity. The company faced significant inefficiencies, including a highly manual accounts payable process that led to a backlog of 24,000 invoices and issues with duplicate payments. To address this challenge, BlueScope partnered with vendor Capgemini to centralize and industrialize its processes, leveraging solutions like the Celaton inSTREAMTM platform.

Capgemini implemented a solution focused on process standardization and intelligent automation, utilizing their ESOAR methodology and establishing a central Command Center for visibility. The key results included significant cost savings, with 83% of invoices becoming fully automated and 99% of duplicate invoices successfully identified and recovered. This transformation saved 1.5 days in processing emailed invoices, improved cash flow predictability, and enhanced BlueScope's overall vendor and credit position.
