Barts Health Achieves Stability And Security With Public Cloud

Barts Health NHS Trust, one of the largest NHS Trusts in England, needed a fast, secure, and seamless way to migrate core IT workloads to the cloud to support a more scalable digital operating model. In 2019, Barts commissioned Capgemini to help modernize its IT estate and move critical services from multiple on-premises data centres while avoiding any disruption to frontline healthcare operations.

Capgemini worked with Barts and Microsoft to design a new Azure VMware Solution (AVS) architecture and used its Cloud Migration Factory methodology to assess the environment and plan the move. The result was a no-downtime migration of 107 servers and 32 applications in three months, followed by over 200 terabytes of data transitioned to the cloud, with the old estate decommissioned and the platform delivering 100% availability, improved security, and greater capacity for future innovation.
