Augmented reality trains employees for the automotive assembly line

Capgemini worked with BMW Group Mexico to improve training for automotive assembly line workers, where increasing vehicle complexity and shorter product lifecycles made it harder to bring employees up to speed quickly. BMW Group Mexico needed a faster, more efficient training approach that would not require more time or effort from supervisors.

Capgemini implemented an augmented reality training environment using HoloLens and tablets to let employees practice dashboard assembly before going to the line. The solution improved training effectiveness, reduced the time supervisors needed to spend overseeing instruction, and enabled new training programs to be created easily. According to Capgemini, the result was more satisfied employees, reduced assembly time, and substantial cost savings.
