Ashok Leyland manages to optimize while migrating to SAP HANA data warehouse

Ashok Leyland, the Indian automotive manufacturer, needed to upgrade its legacy SAP BW 7.3 environment to SAP BW on HANA while reducing redundant data, improving reporting speed, and managing more than six years of transactional data, ten years of master data, and 400+ BEx queries. Capgemini supported the company through this migration challenge, helping Ashok Leyland move from a heavily layered, slow data warehouse to a more optimized HANA-ready platform.

Capgemini implemented an “optimize while migrate” approach, re-engineering the BW stack rather than doing a technical lift-and-shift. The result was a leaner warehouse with fewer reports and dashboards, faster performance, and lower storage and maintenance costs: reports were reduced from 443 to 168, daily data load time dropped from 16 hours to 9 hours, storage fell from 5 TB to 650 GB, and processing speed improved by up to 120x.
