Utah Education Network (UEN) is the state broadband and digital-resource backbone that connects Utah’s public K–20 schools, colleges, universities, and libraries. With a growing fiber network and a massive library of standards-aligned content, UEN needed a single, statewide learning management system to streamline access, support expanding dual-enrollment and distance-education programs, and create consistency for students and teachers across the state.

After a competitive RFP, UEN selected Canvas in 2010 and rolled it out in 2011 with consortium licensing for public higher-education institutions; by fall 2015 Canvas supported more than 100,000 higher-ed students and 89,710 K–12 students in classrooms. The platform delivered cost savings, improved collaboration, a consistent K–20 user experience, and is used for online professional development for 3,500+ teachers annually, with plans to expand Canvas to all 41 districts (about 622,153 students).
