Case Study: Edison Collegiate High School achieves paperless, flexible course delivery with Canvas LMS

High school ‘lives, eats and breathes’ Canvas

Edison Collegiate High School (ECHS), a dual-enrollment high school within Edison State College in southwest Florida, needed more flexibility in course content and delivery and wanted to open-source its curriculum to avoid rising textbook costs. Teachers and administrators felt constrained by a traditional bell schedule and top-down academic plans and asked the college’s online learning team for a technology solution.

After piloting Canvas and Blackboard, student preference and integration needs led ECHS to adopt Canvas campus-wide. Within two weeks of training, faculty moved all course content into Canvas modules, enabling paperless reference materials, online submissions, streamlined grading and parent access to archived work. Teachers now use quizzes and rubrics to measure learning outcomes across courses, and the school reports that Canvas has become central to its instruction and operations.
