Choosing an Lms to Complement a District-Wide Byod Program

Madison County School District, a K–12 district in northern Alabama serving about 20,700 users, faced a technology challenge: limited district-owned devices led to a BYOD program, but students and parents had to juggle multiple LMS platforms—sometimes three to five logins—creating confusion and inefficiency. Seeking a single, easy-to-use system that would work across devices and integrate with Google and the district SIS, the district began evaluating solutions in 2015.

After a successful pilot at one high school, Madison County adopted Canvas district-wide, supported by summer workshops and small-group training. The rollout reached full usage across the district, producing 3,000+ published courses (97% published), widespread use of assignments, lower absenteeism during e-learning days, increased blended- and flipped-learning pilots, and better student preparation for college.
