Canvas makes school district’s new “laptops for all” program work smoothly

Park City School District, a Utah district serving about 2,400 students and 300 teachers, had invested in many education technologies and found learning resources fragmented and files getting lost. To close the digital divide and support a 1:1 laptop program, district leaders sought a single, easy-to-use learning management system that would simplify logistics and give families and teachers consistent access to course materials.

After evaluating several vendors, Park City selected Canvas for its cloud hosting, integrated calendar, ePortfolios, Google Apps integration and native web conferencing, and rolled it out with the 1:1 program beginning in 2010. Teachers and students adopted Canvas quickly with minimal training; administrators worked with Instructure to standardize templates, and usage of features like SpeedGrader, Modules and the integrated Calendar grew rapidly—replacing paper planners, streamlining submissions and communications, and providing a secure, scalable platform for the entire district.
