A Canvas LMS Case Study
Rockingham County Schools, a public district north of Greensboro serving 4,300 high school students (grades 9–12), was preparing a 1:1 device initiative but needed a simple, reliable learning platform to organize coursework, streamline communication, and prevent technology from overwhelming instruction. District leaders sought an intuitive system that would tie together devices, teachers, and students without adding administrative burden.
They chose Canvas for its user-friendly interface, reliability, and seamless integration with Chromebooks and Google Apps. After two days of teacher training and an initial 47-course pilot in 2011, the district rolled out Chromebooks to all 4,300 students in 2012; by 2015 there were 589 active courses. The result: improved communication and productivity, strong teacher adoption, and a 1:1 program where Canvas and Chromebooks are now essential to daily instruction.
