George Lee’s inspiring classroom collaboration story at Balboa High

George Lee, a media arts teacher at Balboa High School, faced the challenge of moving his creative, student-centered classes online during COVID while still building collaboration and connection in a diverse classroom. He turned to Canva for Education to create a virtual classroom and support assignments that kept students engaged and working together.

Using Canva, George built interactive lessons like a virtual field trip to the De Young Museum and Frida Kahlo exhibition, then had students create and share their own portraits in real time. Canva’s collaboration, commenting, and multimedia tools helped students express themselves in different ways and let George monitor progress as it happened, making it a game changer for his teaching and classroom engagement.
