Maryland State Department of Education feeds 433,000+ children with The Canton Group

The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) faced the critical challenge of ensuring children across the state had access to meals after schools were shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. MSDE partnered with The Canton Group, leveraging its existing Maryland Accountability and Reporting System (MARS) application and services to rapidly create a solution for locating food distribution sites.

The Canton Group developed and maintained the "Maryland Meals Site Search" website, utilizing its Agile methodology to quickly adapt to surging traffic and add new locations. This solution successfully directed families to vital resources, resulting in over 81 million meals served by Maryland agencies and more than 433,000 children receiving free and reduced meals during the program.
