Case Study: Nova achieves cost-effective telco cloud transformation with Canonical

A Canonical Case Study

Nova harnesses open source to build a cost-effective telco private cloud

Nova, a leading telecommunications provider in Greece, faced the challenge of managing a fragmented private cloud infrastructure split across three separate ecosystems. This complexity, managed by a small team, hindered operational efficiency. Seeking to improve cost-effectiveness and agility, Nova partnered with Canonical to explore a wider move to open source solutions, including Canonical OpenStack and Canonical Kubernetes.

Canonical provided a fully open source telco cloud solution, delivered through an iterative roadmap that empowered Nova's engineers. The results included a significant reduction in both the total cost of ownership and the time to market for new products. For example, Nova deployed a new Short Message Service Center (SMSC) in just one day. The partnership with Canonical successfully demonstrated the performance and cost benefits of an open source model.
