EpiSensor accelerates the sustainable energy transition with securely designed IoT gateways powered by Ubuntu Core

EpiSensor, an Irish company supporting the sustainable energy transition with IoT infrastructure, faced the challenge of ensuring the highest levels of security and reliability for its industrial gateways. These devices, deployed in critical locations, required a secure, stable, and remotely manageable operating system to help grid operators balance energy demand with unpredictable renewable supply. They turned to vendor Canonical to find a solution.

Canonical provided Ubuntu Core, a minimal and securely designed OS, as the foundation for EpiSensor's gateways. The solution enabled EpiSensor to use a Dedicated Snap Store for secure, over-the-air updates and remote fleet management. This allowed them to provision over 2,500 sites in Taiwan in just six weeks and seamlessly roll out numerous major software updates, effortlessly meeting the stringent requirements of security-conscious customers and unlocking new business opportunities.
