A Camunda Case Study
ZDF Studios, the private commercial subsidiary of Germany’s public broadcaster ZDF, needed to modernize a fragmented media supply chain that relied on manual coordination, decentralized spreadsheets, and disconnected systems. With a small team and no in-house IT department, the company sought a way to manage large volumes of video assets, metadata, rights, and delivery requirements more efficiently. Camunda Platform was chosen to help bring order to the complexity.
Using Camunda, ZDF Studios built a cloud-first orchestration layer to automate ingest, quality checks, metadata enrichment, storage updates, and delivery workflows across systems such as S3, Hybrik, Vidispine, and Asana. The result was end-to-end automation for thousands of media assets, more visible KPIs, and faster ingestion with fewer manual steps. Camunda now supports more than 150,000 process instances per month, helped ZDF Studios save €70K by replacing black-box integrations, and empowered business users to participate directly in process management.
