A Camunda Case Study
BEC, a Danish financial‑technologies firm serving member banks, faced a complex, multi‑party mortgage system and aging legacy core systems that made end‑to‑end mortgage workflows manual, time‑consuming, and hard to maintain. To standardize processes, improve collaboration between business and IT, and reduce dependence on legacy technology, BEC’s Mortgage domain adopted Camunda and the Camunda Platform to model and orchestrate mortgage processes using BPMN.
Using Camunda, BEC built a microservice‑oriented orchestration layer that models and coordinates subprocesses (remortgage, underwriting, land registration, document signing, bond trading) via REST APIs and user tasks, gradually automating work while preserving human intervention where needed. The Camunda‑powered solution automates the remortgage happy path, yielding measurable impact—saving agents on average 100 minutes per case—while improving visibility, integration flexibility, faster support, and reduced human error, helping BEC move toward decommissioning legacy systems.
