Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property runs 5,000 daily processes with Camunda

The Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property (IPI) faced challenges with a proprietary, inflexible system for managing intellectual property rights. Communication between business and IT was difficult, process changes were costly and slow, and compliance with complex security requirements was hard to monitor. To enable more business-driven development, they sought a Business Process Management (BPM) solution and selected the Camunda platform.

Implementing Camunda allowed IPI to automate over 100 core business processes using BPMN 2.0, integrating seamlessly with their existing Java EE environment without needing an enterprise service bus. The results included transparent, business-driven development, more effective operations, and higher quality outputs. The solution handles roughly 5,000 process instances daily for about 250 users, providing full process monitoring and eliminating previous dependencies on specialized personnel.
