More transparency and efficiency in tender management at DB Cargo

DB Cargo, a leading European rail freight operator, faced opaque and inefficient tender and contract management after regulatory changes made previous allocation practices illegal; prices were set decentrally and workflows were hard to track. To address this, DB Cargo integrated the Camunda Platform (Camunda process orchestration platform) into its HiPPS contract management software to centralize tender workflows and improve transparency.

Camunda mapped end-to-end processes in BPMN, orchestrated manual and legacy-system starts, and advised on synchronization to create a standardized flow. As a result, Camunda enabled automated routing and real-time tracking, eliminated manual email handoffs, reduced some process times to a few hours, consolidated workflows to under ten endpoints, and improved pricing transparency and customer experience.
