How Panasonic Europe future-proofed their IT landscape with a Camunda process orchestration layer

Panasonic Europe B.V., part of Panasonic Corporation, needed a way to replace legacy workflow systems, improve approval processes, and simplify integration across multiple ERP environments as it migrated from SAP R/3 to SAP S/4HANA. The company wanted better process visibility, stronger compliance and traceability, and a more user-friendly way for employees to manage approvals without having to navigate SAP directly. Camunda Platform was selected as the process orchestration layer to help unify and modernize these workflows.

With Camunda, Panasonic Europe built a centralized automation and orchestration platform that decoupled process logic from SAP and connected workflows through BPMN/DMN models and OData-based integrations. The result was a single platform handling more than 220,000 workflow instances per year and over 600 process request types, with new workflows developed in as little as 2 days and deployed weekly. Camunda also improved audit readiness, reduced IT burden, supported easier SAP migration, and enabled a small team of four to support enterprise-wide workflows.
