Case Study: Sparta Systems achieves business-analyst-driven workflow creation and deployment with Camunda

A Camunda Case Study

Preview of the Sparta Systems Case Study

Delivering Enterprise Quality Management Solutions to varying industries with automated business workflows

Sparta Systems, a New Jersey–based leader in enterprise quality management (TrackWise, 750,000 users), needed an industry-standard, embeddable workflow engine for its next‑generation cloud SaaS products so business and compliance analysts could create and deploy processes without tying up R&D. After evaluating several options, Sparta selected Camunda (Camunda BPM) for its open-standards approach, native BPMN 2.0 support, embeddability in a Java stack, exposed APIs and OEM‑friendly licensing.

Camunda was embedded into Sparta’s Java platform, the web modeler was customized, and Camunda-facilitated training helped Sparta establish BPMN best practices. The solution encapsulated process execution in a single layer, enabling business analysts to model, test and deploy workflows independently, producing a Best Practices guide and a Sparta-contributed customized BPMN modeler to the open-source project. Camunda’s technology and partnership reduced development overhead, increased in-house BPMN expertise, and made workflow creation and deployment “almost an afterthought,” accelerating process collaboration across Sparta’s Quality Business Network.
