Babylon Health leveraging Camunda for Clinical Safety

Babylon Health, one of the largest NHS practices in the UK and a global healthcare provider, faced the challenge of managing tens of thousands of daily, highly personalised consultations that combine human and automated tasks. Ensuring clinical safety across these complex workflows was critical—losing track of a patient could have catastrophic consequences—so Babylon needed a reliable workflow engine and a way for clinical teams to visualise and manage end-to-end processes. Camunda (Camunda BPM) was chosen to address this need.

Using Camunda BPM and Enterprise support, Babylon implemented BPMN-based workflows with minimal effort, integrating across services via APIs and Java frameworks and accelerating time-to-live with an off-the-shelf UI and expert consultancy. Camunda enabled automation of human workflow management, prevented patients from slipping through the cracks, and helped Babylon ensure consistent treatment and monitor task completion times to adjust staffing as demand changes—supporting the company as it continues to process tens of thousands of consultations daily.
