University of Tennessee at Chattanooga - Customer Case Study

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC), a campus of about 11,000 students, faced a sudden one‑year disruption when the move to early FAFSA and prior‑prior‑year (PPY) income data generated Department of Education C Code 399 flags that flagged discrepancies between tax years. Financial Aid Director Jennifer Buckles anticipated that manually resolving these conflicts would be slow, error‑prone, and could delay or reduce awards for returning students.

UTC deployed CampusLogic’s StudentForms 399 Workbench to automate identification and resolution of 399 flags — creating a review queue, a single‑page comparison that highlights discrepancies, and easy student outreach via text/SMS. The tool cleared more than 200 flags before the spring semester (helping 160+ returning students retain access to aid), handled thousands of ISIRs efficiently, and freed staff to focus on counseling, improving turnaround and student service.
