Durham Energy Institute sharpens its story with Campus PR and a four-pillar messaging framework

The Durham Energy Institute (DEI), an independent research hub at Durham University, faced a challenge in accurately communicating its role to external stakeholders. Its messaging did not reflect its true value as an enabling platform and honest broker. DEI engaged Campus PR to review its communications and develop a new messaging framework to address this critical gap ahead of a new strategic phase.

Campus PR implemented a research-led solution, conducting stakeholder interviews and a communications audit. This revealed the disconnect between internal understanding and external messaging. Campus PR developed a Theory of Change-based messaging framework that clearly articulated DEI's enabling role, complete with audience-specific guidance and new elevator pitches. The Director praised the project as one of the best investments the institute had made, providing not only useful materials but also crucial insight into their own structure and position.
